The Craft of Harmony

Crafting a unified expression from contrasting materials

Kimono, denim, leather, and sea glass.

Bringing these distinctive materials together and transforming them into a single, beautifully balanced bag has been one of our greatest creative challenges.

Each material has its own texture, weight, softness, and unique way of being handled. Where each material is placed, and how they are joined, can greatly influence the overall impression of the bag.

Rather than diminishing the individuality of each material, we carefully bring out its inherent beauty and find harmony among them. Every detail is considered with care, through a process of constant refinement and experimentation.

At the heart of this process are Japanese artisans.

One of the reasons we are committed to working with Japanese artisans is their deep understanding of kimono — its meaning, beauty, and the craftsmanship required to handle it with care. A kimono is more than simply a piece of fabric. It carries within it Japanese culture and aesthetics, generations of craftsmanship, and the stories and sentiments passed down through time.

It is this understanding that allows our artisans to preserve the character of each kimono while bringing out its beauty and transforming it into something entirely new.

The craftsmanship and sensitivity of Japanese artisans are at the heart of what we create.
